Cornelia’s Coffee Shop, in the grounds of St. Nicholas’ church, is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am till noon, and Wednesdays 3-4pm. School holiday opening hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays 10am till noon. We serve delicious Fairtrade coffee, teas, cold drinks and snacks with a very friendly welcome and in a beautiful garden setting. All profits go to charitable causes.
Large hall with kitchen and two smaller rooms available for hire for functions including children’s parties, dance classes, dinners, club meetings and craft fairs.
The large hall has a hard polished floor, with a directly accessible kitchen. Kitchen facilities include gas cooker, sink and preparation areas. The hall is accessible to wheelchair users. There are 100 chairs available for use as well as a number of collapsible tables and benches.
We are a friendly group with a wide age range and varying abilities/aspirations. We share, though, the commitment to ring for services and to try and provide a good standard of ringing.
Ringing is an excellent form of low impact exercise for body and mind, suitable for all ages from around 11 upwards. The ringers would like to welcome new learners to the band. We practice on a Wednesday evening from 7.45 to 9.00, and as you know ring for the Sunday services from 8:45 to 9:25 am and, when we have enough people, from 6 to 6.25 pm. St Mary’s church has two rooms to hire – the main church hall and the Janet Campbell Room, and so is the ideal venue for various gatherings from kids’ parties, exercise classes, clubs, business/community meetings and beyond!
The church is located on the Luton Road, approximately one mile to the north of town and is adjacent to the beautiful Kinsbourne Green Common
The 21st Harpenden Brownies is proud to be affiliated to St Nicholas Parish Church. We are a member of Girlguiding UK which is the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in this country. We have about 580,000 members.

Parish of Harpenden Mothers’ Union (which dates from 1895) normally meets every last Thursday of the month at 2.15pm. and is part of a International Christian Charity.
We have 50 members, some of whom do not regularly attend meetings; but they each receive a bi-monthly Newsletter. Members are invited to St Albans Diocesan MU events where we learn what is happening around the Diocese and further afield. Members also receive a Diocesan magazine three times a year and also publications from our headquarters in London.
As members of the worldwide Mothers’ Union our principles are founded on the support of marriage and family life and is rooted in prayer.
We generally have a speaker for our meetings, but also we may have a Meditation or just a social gathering.
The Committee keep in touch with their particular members and see that they are well, or in need of help and/or prayer.

St. Mary’s Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF) Group meets monthly at St. Mary’s. Other groups happen during different seasons in the church’s year such as Lent. Occasional Quiet Days are run using the excellent new facilities in the Church extension. Tuesday Afternoon Group (TAG) is a social activity group open to all, both from the congregation and the local community. It meets monthly, on the 4th Tuesday, in the church hall, and usually has a visiting speaker. Afternoon tea is provided.
Kinsbourne Common Nursery uses the Church Hall four mornings weekly. The building is frequently hired out for groups such as the WI and lace makers. All Saints members have a strong tradition of initiating and founding charitable, ecumenical and community projects and hosting local outreach. One member founded and brought to existence a Christian church and school in Musoto, Uganda, for which All Saints continues to fundraise. Community Meeting Point, a facility in Harpenden for those with mental health challenges is another such story. Harpenden Child Contact Centre and Harpenden Money Advice Centre operate from the Church building and All Saints members are closely involved with both.
We have an annual stall in the Harpenden Larks in the Parks fair. This year we read bible stories to youngsters.
We host an annual Senior Citizens Christmas Concert where the talented musicians of Sir John Lawes High School join us to provide the entertainment. We also work very closely with Batford Methodist Church, welcoming them to a our festival services and organising a Good Friday Walk of Witness together.

Our links are growing with Harpenden’s primary and secondary schools. Jump! is a small ecumenical team operating out of All Saints that gives Christian lessons across all year groups in four local primary schools.
Various groups use the facilities of All Saint’s hall. Fingertips Nursery operates four daytime sessions each week. Rainbow Guides and a Brownie Guides meet at All Saints and are invited to major festivals. The building is very frequently hired out by groups including the Dance Studio, Tiny Tots Tunes and flower arranging groups, as well as for private functions like children’s parties.
